Week One-No Carbs

Confession time… I am addicted to coffee, and I love my coffee sweet! For years, since the invention of artificial sweeteners, I have used the “pink stuff,” the “blue stuff,” and for the last decade the the “yellow stuff.” Then, a few months ago, I happened to read that artificial sweeteners don’t help when trying to lose weight. So, I started using sugar in my coffee and in the first week I lost five pounds.

Now, I’m not sure, but I think my sugar intake is catching up with me and might be the reason I gained five pounds! I was using a lot of sugar because I drink lots of coffee. Caffeine does not affect me like it might other people, I can drink a cup and go right to sleep. Thinking about it now, it could be that I gained because I was eating two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before bed every night, haha! Well, on Monday when I began my program, I started using the “yellow stuff” in my coffee again just to see what happens.

Yesterday, I started feeling bad and realized that it was probably from having no sugar or carbohydrates for three days. “Sugar withdrawal” is known to cause low energy, headaches, muscle aches and pains, among other side effects. I ate some pistachio nuts and felt much better afterward.
